As counting of votes in Bihar’s 243 Assembly constituencies began on Friday (November 14, 2025), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who is named as the opposition’s Chief Ministerial candidate, said that it will be a “people’s victory” and that the Mahagathbandhan will form the government in the State.

“It will be a people’s victory. We are willing. Change will come. We are forming the government,” Mr. Tejashwi told reporters in Patna. He was accompanied by his elder sister and Lok Sabha MP Misa Bharti, while coming out from 10, Circular Road, the official residence of former CM Rabri Devi.

Counting of votes, first with the postal ballots, commenced at 8 a.m. amid tight security arrangements. It is being conducted by 243 Returning Officers (ROs) in the presence of 243 Counting Observers, as well as the candidates or their agent.

A day earlier on Thursday (November 13), the opposition INDIA bloc in Bihar, led by Mr. Yadav, voiced apprehension of a “conspiracy” during counting of votes for the State Assembly polls, allegedly at the behest of the ruling NDA.

At a press conference in Patna, Mr. Yadav, alongside CPI-ML Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and AICC in charge for Bihar Krishna Allavaru, among others, appealed to the Election Commission of India to ensure “impartiality” in counting of votes.

The RJD leader recounted the 2020 Assembly elections when, he claimed: “Mahagathbandhan was certain to form the government, but for manipulations by pliant officials”.

A record 67.13% of voters cast their ballots in two phases of polling, the highest voter turnout in the State since 1951.

According to the ECI, this is the first time in recent history that no discrepancies or malpractices were found at any polling station after scrutiny, and no repolls have been recommended.
