Pitched campaigning continued in the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency on Saturday by parties in the by-poll fray canvassing door-to-door and engaging with potential electors.

Chandrayangutta legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi made his presence felt in the Jubilee Hills constituency as the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president is campaigning for his party candidates in Bihar’s Seemanchal region, addressing public meetings in several constituencies – Araria, Thakurgunj, and Kochadhaman constituencies, among others.

Mr Akbaruddin made an appearance on Friday at the Masjid-e-Aqsa in Shaikpet, where he offered Friday prayers, even as a large crowd of onlookers, and worshippers gathered. While he did not address any public meeting, he did exchange greetings with those who arrived.

A day later, Mr Owaisi, who is the AIMIM floor leader in the Legislative Assembly, visited Jama Masjid in Anand Nagar, a part of the Erragadda division, in the Jubilee Hills constituency. The party has a strong presence in the Erragadda and Shaikpet wards. The legislator was followed by a large number vocal party functionaries, supporters, of constituents from the area, many of whom raised pro-AIMIM slogans.

“MLAs and MLCs from our party, including Mirza Rahmat Baig and Riyaz-ul-Hasan Effendi, Kausar Mohiuddin, have been working in Jubilee Hills since the beginning. Meetings are happening between our leaders and workers to improve coordination. The aim is to get the voters enthused, and ensure that they go out to vote on 11th. This is what we are working towards. We have been speaking to as many people as possible throughout the day and night,” a party functionary said.

As a part of the election discourse, the AIMIM has been maintaining that former Jubilee Hills legislator, the late Maganti Gopinath, did little for the constituency in terms of development work.

On the other hand, the Congress too has been on the ground, and in conjunction with the AIMIM, and independently as well, visiting masjids in key areas such as those in Shaikpet and Erragadda divisions. Advisor to the Government for Minorities Welfare Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society chief Faheem Qureshi and Minister for Minorities Welfare were seen engaging with people in masjids as well.
