Andhra Pradesh government Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) S. Suresh Kumar showcased the State’s comprehensive urban transformation programme, with a special focus on the transport and trunk infrastructure plan created for sustainable inter-modal transport in the Amaravati capital region, at the Smart City Expo World Congress – 2025 (SCEWC) held in Barcelona on Thursday (November 06, 2025).

Mr. Suresh Kumar highlighted the State’s integrated approach to urban development that combined transit-oriented development, circular economy principles, net-zero energy targets, electric mobility, advanced utility ducting, and eco-friendly building practices which position Andhra Pradesh as a global example of large-scale, PPP-enabled sustainable urbanisation.

In a press release, he said that he gave a presentation on how the State government planned to translate its strategic planning into tangible, citizen-centric outcomes and focus was laid on the way Amaravati was designed not merely as infrastructure but as an integrated ecosystem where mobility, utilities and environment that was in coherence with the need to improve living standards and enable inclusive economic growth.

The main themes of the presentation on Amaravati were a Unified Infrastructure Ecosystem that comprised a comprehensive road network of 320 kilometres of trunk roads integrated with the regional highway network and supported by an extensive arterial and sub-arterial hierarchy designed to separate high-speed regional movement from local access, and the Land Pooling Scheme infrastructure that consists of over 1,281 km of neighbourhood streets paired with 2,360 km of stormwater drains, 2,239 km of water supply, 2,318 km of reuse water network, and a power and information and communication technology network that spans 11,436 km.

Other features were a public transport backbone, trunk utilities and life-cycle planning, institutional architecture (formation of A.P. Capital Region Unified Transportation Authority to coordinate multimodal planning, combined ticketing, and project implementation across agencies), and technical partnerships.

“The quality and maturity of Andhra Pradesh’s plan with built-in sustainability and bankable PPP structures makes it attractive for global collaboration. Delegates were particularly interested in piloting smart drainage and EV charging corridors,” Mr. Suresh Kumar added.
