Superintendent of the Chevella Community Health Centre (CHC), Rajendra Prasad, said that 20 people have died in the tipper lorry-bus accident on the Mirjaguda–Khanapur road in Chevella mandal, Rangareddy district of Telangana on Monday (November 3, 2025) early morning.

The accident took place around 7.30 a.m. on the Vikarabad–Hyderabad route when a lorry, while trying to overtake a two-wheeler, reportedly crashed into an RTC bus.

Dr. Prasad said six passengers with minor injuries were being treated at the Chevella CHC, while those with serious injuries had been shifted to Patnam Mahindra Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences and Bhaskar General Hospital. “The total number of deaths is 20. We have kept the bodies in our mortuary for now. They will be handed over to the families after the completion of panchanama procedures,” he said.

Ranga Reddy District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), B Venkateswar Rao, confirmed that three passengers with critical injuries were referred to Patnam Mahindra Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, while others sustained mild or facial injuries.

Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) Commissioner, Ajaya Kumar, also confirmed the high death toll. “Almost 20 dead bodies are lying at the hospital now. The number of injured is still being is yet to be confirmed as patients were moved to different hospitals,” he said.

Meanwhile, Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha expressed deep shock over the tragic road accident. The Minister spoke with senior Health Department officials over the phone and inquired about the condition of the injured being treated at CHC Chevella. He directed that all those requiring advanced medical care be immediately shifted to Hyderabad for treatment and instructed senior officials to proceed to the hospitals without delay.

Osmania General Hospital (OGH) has made all necessary arrangements to receive victims, both for emergency treatment and for post-mortem procedures, Superintendent, Rakesh Sahay, told The Hindu. “We are prepared to receive the victims for treatment and also arranged facilities at the mortuary for post-mortem examinations. All arrangements have been made,” he said.

Dr. Sahay said that, as per initial information, at least four injured patients were being shifted to OGH, though the number could rise depending on the condition of those admitted to nearby hospitals. “I have been informed that four patients are being brought immediately, and more may follow depending on their medical needs,” he added.

He further said that additional facilities were set up near the mortuary to accommodate relatives of the deceased. “We have extended the seating area and made some additional arrangements to handle the larger number of people. Our staff and forensic teams are on standby,” he said. According to Dr. Sahay, the hospital’s forensic department has a team of eight doctors and around fifteen postgraduate staff members who are ready to begin post-mortem work once the bodies arrive.
