Chikkamagaluru Police arrested two people wanted in theft cases and recovered valuables worth over ₹32 lakh from them. The arrested are said to be part of the infamous Chaddi Gang, known for theft cases reported in different parts of the state.

Chikkamagaluru SP Vikram Amathe, on Saturday (October 25, 2025), informed the media that a special team was formed under the leadership of Chikkamagaluru Town Police Inspector Abhay after a theft case was reported in the town on June 20 this year. Unknown people had fled with 495 grams of gold jewellery and one kilo of silver items.

SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT

After continuous efforts over several days, the police succeeded in tracing two of the gang to Maharashtra. They arrested Pappu Pawar (40) and Mangesh Ankush (23), native of Jalna district in Maharashtra. The police recovered valuables from them. The suspects are said to have admitted to committing similar crimes in Ballari, Gadag and Chitradurga districts, besides Chikkamagaluru.

The SP said that the group called Chaddi Gang were known for theft cases. The Chikkamagaluru Police successfully nabbed two members of the gang. “The arrested have been remanded to judicial custody. There are six more people in the team. Our police are continuing the efforts to nab them,” he added.
