The Tilak Nagar police has registered an FIR against a television serial artiste for blackmailing her neighbour with the latter’s private photos to extort ₹2 crore.

Based on the complaint filed by Parvati, 61, the police have charged the accused, identified as Asha Jois, under section 66E (intentional or knowing capture, publication, or transmission of an image of a person’s private area without their consent, which occurs under circumstances that violate their privacy) of the IT act.

According to the complaint, the accused befriended the victim and became close to her, claiming that she is a TV serial actress and belongs to a respectable family from Sringeri Mutt.

According to police officials, while interacting closely with the victim, the accused learned about her marriage to the owner of the company where the victim had worked earlier.

Asha allegedly accessed the victim’s phone and transferred private photographs and voice records to her own phone, which she then shared with her own relatives and friends, the FIR noted. Asha started blackmailing the victim, forcing her to demand a ransom of ₹2 crore from her husband.
