The byelection to the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency has become an opportunity for several sections of people disgruntled with the Government policies to air their grievances. A majority of the candidates who filed nominations for the election on the last day did so in protest over various causes ranging from displacement to deprivation.

A total 321 nominations were filed by 211 candidates by the deadline on Tuesday (October 21, 2025), with 194 filed by 117 candidates on the last day.

Government sources informed that the Returning Officer received nominations from at least three sections of protestors, including pensioners who have not received their retirement benefits from the State for a long time. Others contesting in protest were the people set to lose their properties to the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, and the villagers opposing Pharma City project. These apart, unemployed youth as a group too are said to have filed their nominations for the byelection.

Convenor of the Anti Pharma City Movement, Saraswathi Kavula, confirmed that 10 persons from six villages/hamlets filed nominations protesting against the Pharma City. The villages are Kurmidda, Marlakunta Tanda, Mangaligadda Tanda, Medipally, Nanak Nagar, and Thatiparthi in Ranga Reddy district.

The nominations will be scrutinised on Wednesday (October 22, 2025), and the final list will be announced by the evening. The last date for withdrawal is October 24, and the date of poll is November 11.

Officials informed that four sets of control units with four Electronic Voting Machines connected to each of them is the maximum that can be used for electronic voting. If all the 211 nominations are proven valid, then this poll would need all the four control units. Only when the number of candidates exceeds 255, the polling will need to be done by paper ballot.
