The annual 61-day fishing ban for mechanised boats along the east coast of Tamil Nadu will come into force on Wednesday (April 15, 2026), bringing trawler-based fishing operations to halt.

The ban, in effect from April 15 to June 14, under the Tamil Nadu Marine Fishing Regulations Act 1983,considering the fish breeding season and need to protect the marine resources. Trawlers are restricted during this period as their operation could adversely affect the breeding grounds.
