52 candidates submit nominations in Kozhikode district

As many as 52 candidates submitted their nomination papers for the local body polls in Kozhikode district on Monday. These are the first set of nominations filed in the district after the final voters’ list was published on Sunday (November 16).

There were six nominations in the Koyilandy municipality, while there was only one in the Payyoli municipality. One nomination was also submitted at the Thuneri Block Panchayat. A few candidates filed nominations in the following grama panchayats as well: Valayam (3), Maruthonkara (2), Vilyappilli (1), Maniyur (5), Keezhariyur(8), Meppayur (3), Cheruvannur (1), Koothali (1), Ullyeri (2), Arikkulam (6), Chengottukavu (1), Kakkodi (1), Kakkoor (7), Thalakkulathur (2) and Chathamangalam (1).

Meanwhile, the Congress and the BJP announced their final list of candidates for Kozhikode Corporation on Monday (November 17). The Congress candidates are K.C. Shobhita (Malapparamba), Unnimaya Sanuraj (Kovoor), S.K. Aboobakker (Meenchantha), Mullaveettil Jahish (Areekkad North) and Smitha Shelji (Chakkumkadavu). Sauda Kollerithazham will be a UDF-supported Independent candidate in Cheruvannur West Division.

The BJP candidates are Hareesh P. (Paroppadi), Bineesh A. (Kottooli), Jeeja K. (Kuttichira), Sreeja C. (Mavoor Road), Annie Steffi (Eranhipalam), N. Sivaprasad (Chakkorathukulam), Sreevidya Jineesh (East Hill), Beena Vishwanath (Elathur) and Pushparajan K. (Eranhikkal).
