The police arrested five BJP workers in connection with an attack on Congress activists at Kallekkad near Palakkad. The attack took place in the early hours of Thursday in connection with fixing of an election poster.

Youth Congress worker Mohammed Ajmal suffered serious injuries to his eyes. He was admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore.

The Congress alleged that BJP workers unleashed the attack after entering into the house of District Congress Committee secretary Nanda Balan.

BJP State vice president C. Krishnakumar accused the Congress workers of attacking BJP activists. He said Congress workers hurled stones at the BJP men.

The Congress alleged that BJP candidate in ward 18 of Pirayiri panchayat, Arun Alangad, was also involved in the attack.
