At least 40 persons have reportedly fallen ill after eating the lunch served at a wedding held at Vanapalli village of Kothapeta mandal in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. All those who fell ill after eating the food were guests invited by the bride’s family.

Kothapeta Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunkara Muralimohan told The Hindu: “The guests invited by the bride’s family ate food twice within a gap of a few hours. At least 40 of them complained of illness, reportedly due to food poisoning.”

The wedding was held at the bridegroom’s residence, and the bridegroom’s family served the lunch prepared at the wedding venue, the SP added.

An official release issued by the District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar, said: “By Thursday evening, 28 persons were admitted to the Kothapeta Government Hospital with symptoms of vomiting and other complications. Presently, their health condition is out of danger. The remaining persons were given medication.”

District In-charge Minister K. Atchannaidu inquired about the incident and status of the patients.

Kothapeta MLA Bandaru Satyananda Rao interacted with the patients in the hospital and monitored their treatment.
