Around 2.5 lakh personnel, including polling officials and police personnel, will be deployed for the 2025 local body polls in December, the State Election Commission said on Monday.

State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan said around 1.8 lakh polling officials and 70,000 police personnel would be deployed during the two-phase polls on December 9 and December 11.

Each polling station would have one presiding officer and three polling officers. A total of 1.8 lakh officials would be in charge of the polling stations and the distribution of polling materials.

Each phase of the elections would see the deployment of 35,000 police personnel each, Mr. Shajahan said. Arrangements for the maintenance of law and order during the elections had been made in consultation with the State Police Chief, he said.

The commission was also in the process of identifying sensitive polling stations, he said. These stations would be under webcasting and additional security. During the 2020 local body elections, Kerala had 1,850 sensitive polling stations.
