14,077 cases settled in National Lok Adalat in Mysuru district

As many as 14,077 pending court cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat held across Mysuru district on December 13.

According to a press release issued after the Lok Adalat, courts in Mysuru city and taluks together had 1,30,887 pending cases, comprising 65,170 civil and 65,666 criminal cases. Of these, 49,645 cases were identified as legally compoundable. During the Lok Adalat, 26,694 cases were taken up for compromise and settlement, resulting in the disposal of 14,077 cases pending before courts.

The National Lok Adalat was organised as per the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, and the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru, with the objective of resolving pending and pre-litigation cases through amicable settlement.

The release said special emphasis was laid on traffic challan cases, with a 50% concession offered to violators. A total of 10,41,732 traffic challan cases were disposed of in the district, generating a revenue of ₹23,61,37,150. In addition, pending transport-related cases registered between 1991–92 and 2019–20 were also taken up with a similar concession. Under this category, 116 cases were settled, resulting in the collection of ₹1.41 lakh, according to the release.

The Lok Adalat also played an important role in resolving family disputes, with 42 couples from Mysuru city and Mysuru taluk courts reconciling their differences and reuniting. Settlements reached during the Lok Adalat led to a total realisation of ₹73.55 crore through compromise and mutual agreement, the release said.

Expressing satisfaction over the successful conduct of the Lok Adalat, Principal District and Sessions Judge Usha Rani thanked the office-bearers of the Advocates’ Association, all advocates and litigants, the Police Department, and other departments concerned for their cooperation.

Senior Civil Judge Amarnath K.K., Mysuru Advocates’ Association president S. Lokesh, secretary A.G. Sudheer, and judges of all Mysuru city courts were present on the occasion.
