Maharashtra government on Thursday (November 6, 2025) ordered a high level inquiry, suspended two persons and registered a police complaint related to an alleged ₹300 crore land deal controversy allegedly involving Parth Pawar, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son. Opposition parties have sought a judicial probe. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered an inquiry into the land deal, which will be conducted by Vikas Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue department.

“He will probe whether this was a reservation land or government land, the allegations of illegalities in the land deal, whether due procedure was followed in the matter,” a senior officer told The Hindu. Meanwhile, the tehsildar and a sub-registrar were suspended from government service. The names of the suspended officials are Suryakant Yewale and R.B. Taru.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said, “I have sought information from the revenue department and also land records on the matter. I have also been instructed to probe the issue. Prima facie, the issue seems serious; however, I still don’t have complete information. The Deputy Chief Minister will also not support this. We have collectively decided that if there have been irregularities, strict action will be taken.”

According to government officials, 16.19 hectares of government land was sold to Amadea Enterprises LLP, in which Parth Pawar is a partner. While the market price of the land is reportedly ₹1600 – ₹1800 crore, it was sold for ₹300 crore. The deal’s sale deed document, issued by the Department of Registration and Stamps dated May 20, mentions the name of Digvijay Amarsinh Patil, the partner of Mr. Parth and co-founder of Amadea Enterprises LLP, as the buyer party. A stamp duty charge of ₹500 was taken for the land deal.

The sub-registrar has been suspended as the land deal which should have fetched the government ₹21 crore as stamp duty, was registered on a stamp paper of ₹500, causing loss to the exchequer. As per the documents accessed by The Hindu, even if a waiver was granted on the land deal, it should have fetched the government ₹6 Crore. As per the suspension order of Mr. Taru accessed by The Hindu, “Prima facie, serious irregularities and loss of revenue have been observed. It is important to take disciplinary action due to these preliminary irregularities.”

The Joint Registrar registered a police complaint at the Bawdhan Police Station in Pimpri Chinchwad regarding the same issue. The FIR was being registered when this report went to print.

District Collector of Pune, Jitendra Dudi, said, “This land could not be sold as it is a government land. The transaction was done keeping the Revenue Department in the dark. Strict action will be taken against the officers who failed to check the details of the deal.”

DCM Ajit Pawar disassociated himself with the deal, saying, “I am in no capacity directly associated with the deal. However, I have sought full information, as two to three months back, I got to know something of this sort. I clearly instructed them that I won’t tolerate anything unlawful, and no one should do this. I don’t know what happened thereafter.”

‘₹21 crore stamp duty waived off’

“The market value of the land would be at least ₹1600 -₹1800 crore. It was not just an irregular deal. The law was breached and serious irregulaties were committed. The question is why ₹21 crore stamp duty was waived as per the prevailing rates on the land deal worth ₹300 crore,” Pune-based RTI activist, Vijay Kumbhar, told The Hindu.

Posting a document on X, he said, “Was it because the buyer happens to be the son of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar? When a common man buys a small flat, he pays lakhs in stamp duty. Then how do the ultra-rich get ‘special exemptions’ on crores worth of land? One rule for the powerful, another for the people?”

Meanwhile, the opposition has sought a judicial inquiry into the matter.

But NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule, and Parth Pawar’s aunt came out in his support, saying, “I trust him [Parth Pawar]. Everything is confusing…who is running the government? Who is in the decision-making process? CM has given an order; does it mean the transaction has happened? If it is government land, how is it sold? Tehsildar has no idea about the transactions, then what exactly is happening?” she asked.

An FIR has been registered at Bawdhan Police station against three persons namely Sheetal Tejwani, Digvijay Amarsingh Patil and Ravindra Taru for colluding to cause loss of ₹6 Crore to the State exchequer by evading stamp duty. Sheetal Tejwani is the holder of power of attorney of the original land owners’ descendants, Digvijay Paril is the LLP’s authorised signatory and Ravindra Taru is the suspended sub-registrar. The FIR has been registered under Sections 316(5), 318(2), 35 of BNS and section 59 of Maharashtra Stamps Act.
