The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad Chairperson and District president Majji Srinivasa Rao has joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the CM’s camp office on Tuesday.

Mr. Naidu welcomed Mr. Srinivasa Rao into the TDP by draping the party scarf around him. Mr. Srinivasa Rao’s daughter Siri Sahasra also joined the party and was welcomed by the Chief Minister

Earlier on Tuesday Mr. Srinivasa Rao submitted his resignation letter to former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, citing personal reasons. He also resigned from the post of YSRCP in-charge for the Bhimili assembly constituency.

According to sources Mr. Srinivasa Rao who belongs to the Kapu community, had reportedly developed differences with his uncle Botcha Satyanarayana, former Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the A.P. Legislative Council. Sources said: “Mr. Srinivasa Rao’s move to join the TDP comes ahead of the local body elections.”

Mr. Srinivasa Rao had played a key role in YSRCP’s victory in the 2019 local body elections. The YSRCP had won all 34 Zilla Praja Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) seats and more than 90% of the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seats in the district.
