YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders on Monday staged a protest at the district Collectorate demanding officials to accept public grievances regarding the alleged encroachment of lands by GITAM University. The YSRCP leaders expressed anger after officials refused to receive complaints submitted by citizens.

The YSRCP leaders maintained that hundreds of people had come to the grievance cell seeking protection of government lands and to submit complaints against the alleged encroachment by GITAM. However, officials allegedly refused to accept the petitions, saying that computers were not functioning, they alleged and accused the administration of acting under the directions of Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat and suppressing public complaints.

The protest was led by YSRCP Visakhapatnam district president K.K. Raju who alleged that even as cases are pending in courts, illegal constructions continue in GITAM University. He further alleged that valuable land worth thousands of crores was handed over to Mr. Sribharat because he is a relative of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Former MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar questioned as to why the BJP leaders are silent about the alleged corruption of the TDP leaders. He demanded that the MP be arrested and said that once YSRCP returns to power, the party will take back the lands of GITAM and demolish all illegal constructions.
