A 22-year-old youth was arrested by Viruthampattu police in Vellore for selling narcotic-laced chocolates on Sunday.

The police said the arrested person was identified as S. Manoj Kumar, a native of Bihar. He came to Vellore town to board a bus to Virudhunagar to meet his brother.

Initial inquiry revealed that based on orders of Superintendent of Police (SP) U.N. Sivaraman, searches have been conducted by special police teams in the district to prevent possession, selling and buying of narcotic items.

The police said as part of surveillance, a special police team was patrolling VIruthampattu area when they got an alert on the sale of narcotic chocolates near the bus stop. The team reached the spot and intercepted Kumar. They also checked his bag and found around 1,500 narcotic-laced chocolates in it. Kumar told them that he procured the contraband in Bihar. A case was registered and a probe is under way.
