Yash’s much-awaited film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has received its UK certification from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film has been given high ratings for violence and injury detail, with its classification indicating several intense scenes.

The certification comes ahead of Toxic’s theatrical release on August 26. The film was initially set to release on March 19, clashing with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge; however, it got postponed.

According to the BBFC listing, Toxic has received a 5/5 rating for violence, sex and injury detail. Threat and horror, language, drugs, sexual violence and sexual threat, and suicide and self-harm have each received a 4/5 rating.

Notably, the film’s UK runtime is listed as 191 minutes and 41 seconds. Take a look at the BBFC’s certification listing below:

Toxic features disturbing injury details

The BBFC also highlighted several disturbing visuals in the film. Its listing mentions strong images of corpses, severed body parts, bleeding wounds and pools of blood following violent scenes. The certification also refers to an upsetting sequence that implies child sexual abuse. Alongside this, the film contains strong language and scenes involving drug misuse.

With its UK certification now in place, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is set to arrive in theatres on August 26.

Toxic gets a stricter UK rating than Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar

After the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rating was revealed, fans have started comparing Toxic with Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar franchise. Both Dhurandhar, released in 2025, and Dhurandhar 2, which arrived in March this year, received an 18+ certificate from the BBFC.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the first film was rated 5/5 for violence, while it received 4/5 for threat and horror, language, drugs, sexual violence and sexual threat, and suicide and self-harm. Its rating for sex stood at 2/5, while discrimination was rated 3/5.

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2 also received a 5/5 rating for violence. It was rated 4/5 for threat and horror, language, drugs, sexual violence and sexual threat, and injury detail. The film received 3/5 for sex and 2/5 for discrimination.

Toxic movie: What is the plot?

The film follows Raya, who rises through betrayal and violence to take control of Goa’s underworld as Portuguese rule collapses, only to discover that power comes at a price. In this film, Yash is playing the dual role of Raya and Ticket. Apart from him, the film features an ensemble female star cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth, in key roles.

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is produced by KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The film’s cinematography is handled by Rajeev Ravi, while the music is composed by Ravi Basrur.
