The GVMC Commissioner, Ketan Garg, on Wednesday inaugurated the photo exhibition ‘News in Frames’, organised by the Visakhapatnam District Photo Journalists’ Association (VPJA) at the Visakha Museum, to mark World Photography Day, coinciding with the 187th anniversary of the invention of photography.

Mr. Garg went round the exhibition and enquired about several photographs on display. Addressing photojournalists later, he said, “Capturing memories through photography is a very important task, and preserving those memories is even more important.” He assured the GVMC’s continued support to the photojournalist community.

He felicitated photojournalists who had recently received awards, including The Hindu’s K.R. Deepak and V. Raju. Left leaders, including CPI State secretariat member J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, along with several students, also visited the exhibition, which will remain open till August 20.

World Photography Day was also observed at Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan, which has marked the occasion for 18 years. The celebrations were attended by photographers B.K. Agrawal, Anitha Mysore, and a photojournalist from a reputed Telugu daily. A photography competition for students of classes IV to XII was held. Nearly 453 students submitted about 1,250 photographs.
