Woman, two young sons run over by train near Arakkonam railway station

A 27-year-old woman and her two young sons were hit and run over by a train near Arakkonam railway station in Ranipet district on Sunday (August 30,2026).

Police said the victims were identified as K. Valli (27), and her two sons K. Bharath (7) and K. Santhosh (3). Around 9 a.m., when the incoming Chennai Central Suburban – Tiruchanur MEMU train that was proceeding towards Tiruttani town, the woman was seen walking across the track with her children near Arakkonam railway station. All three were hit and run over by the train.

Police said an initial inquiry revealed that S. Kottaiyah (30) was married to Valli in Kancheepuram, her hometown. They were involved in making flat grinding stones for household purposes along roadsides in villages and small towns.

Police said the couple moved to Mangamapettai village near Arakkonam to make a living out of making grinding stones. Kottaiyah died a few months ago due to illness. Since then, Valli faced financial challenges in running the family.

Relatives of the couple in Kancheepuram were informed and they were on their way to Government Taluk Hospital in Arakkonam town where the bodies of deceased family were kept for post-mortem.

Police said a case has been registered and an investigation is under way. Suicide angle is also being probed.
