The Maradu police have taken into custody the mother of a newborn boy found abandoned at a wayside eatery in Maradu on Sunday (June 28), along with her friend, who had initially claimed to have discovered the infant.

According to police sources, the child’s mother, a cancer patient staying in Kundannur, allegedly decided to abandon the child due to financial and health issues. The police traced the woman after questioning the youth who had alerted them about the baby.

The baby, believed to have been only a few hours old, was rescued by the police and shifted to Ernakulam General Hospital.
