A 42-year-old woman died after she and her mother allegedly fell into a well at their house at Chavanapuzha in Kannur on Thursday (July 2).

The deceased was identified as Karayapath Chitrarekha, 42. Her mother, Lakshmi, survived the incident and is undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital, Pariyaram.

According to officials, residents, with the help of Fire and Rescue Services personnel, pulled the two women out of the well and rushed them to Taliparamba Taluk Hospital. Chitrarekha was declared dead on arrival.

The Taliparamba police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect that Chitrarekha may have jumped into the well due to mental health-related issues. The investigation is continuing.
