A 55-year-old woman allegedly attacked her daughter with a machete in a bid to kill her before attempting to end her life, in front of Harihareshwara Temple, Agrahara Layout in Sampigehalli, on Wednesday.
Passers-by noticed the incident, rushed to their help and shifted both the accused and the victim to the hospital before alerting the police . While the accused, Sarojamma, is out of danger and under observation, her daughter, Rekha, 25, sustained serious injuries on her neck and her condition is said to be critical.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 4.30 p.m. when Sarojamma and Rekha reached Harihareshwara temple. The accused allegedly attacked Rekha with a machete before hitting herself.
The incident has been captured on CCTV cameras and the police are analysing the footage while awaiting their recovery to question them.
Probe revealed that Rekha lives with her husband Somashekar, a weaver by profession in Anekal, while Sarojamma resides in Sampigehalli with her father, who is in his 80s.
Rekha often reportedly quarrelled with her husband and returned to her mother. Both women had been performing special pooja to address her marital problems. Sarojamma had recently consulted an astrologer, who had suggested to perform the special pooja.
Rekha’s husband, despite being informed of the incident, did not respond to calls, the police said. The Sampigehalli Police have registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and further investigations are on.
