Kolagani Srinivas and Y. Sunil Rao, the newly elected BJP corporators, have been fielded by the BJP as its candidates for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (MCK), the indirect election of which will be held this February 16, 2026) afternoon after the oath-taking ceremony.

The MCK election result has thrown up a hung council with the BJP winning the highest number of 30 divisions, followed by the Congress (14), the BRS (9), the AIMIM (3), the AIFB (2) and the independents in five divisions of the 66-member MCK.

Amid claims and counterclaims by the BJP and the Congress to capture the MCK, all eyes are now on the BRS’s stand and the role of five independent candidates and two AIFB candidates in determining the mayoral election result. Speculation is rife that the BRS may abstain from voting in the mayoral elections of MCK. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, is expected to cast his vote as an ex-officio member.
