Why the Election Commission refused Rahul Gandhi’s request to meet

The Election Commission of India has responded to the INDIA bloc’s protest in Delhi, saying the Opposition’s request for a meeting outside the Commission’s headquarters was unusual and could not be accepted under established procedures.
The clarification came after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and several Opposition MPs staged an over eight-hour sit-in, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. While the Opposition accused the poll body of failing to engage with its concerns, the Election Commission said no formal request had been submitted through authorised representatives and that it had even offered to receive the memorandum through a senior official.
