HYDERABAD

Working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao said the BRS was the A-team of Telangana, not the B-team of either the Congress or BJP, as was branded by both national parties.

In response to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s comments that if any party that fails to support the INDI Alliance candidate in the Vice-President’s election would be assumed as a supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mr. Rama Rao said such arrogance of the Congress was leading the party to successive failures and making the Congress a loner in the country’s politics.

“This sense of entitlement and arrogance that ‘either you are with us or else you are with them’ is a silly argument,” he said, arguing that Congress was continuing to treat Indian politics as a two-sided battlefield, where regional parties were forced into choosing camps. Such an approach had already cost the party its relevance in most States.

Making it clear that BRS’s priorities remained rooted in Telangana, Mr. Rama Rao said the party’s loyalty lay only with the people of the State. “Our only allegiance is to the people of Telangana. Their welfare, their aspirations and their voice in Delhi is what we represent and not the power games of Delhi-based parties”, he maintained.

The BRS working president advised the Congress leaders to reflect on their declining electoral footprint and governance failures instead of attempting to discredit the regional outfits through false binaries.
