In order to supply drinking water to the taluks of Kushalnagar, Periyapatna, Arakalgudu, Hunsur, K.R. Nagar and Saligrama, the Regional Commissioner of Mysuru Division has ordered the release of 500 cusecs of water per day from Harangi reservoir into the river from May 9 to 13.

A statement issued by Executive Engineer of Harangi Rehabilitation Division, Kushalnagar, I.K. Puttaswamy, on Friday said directions to the effect were issued during a meeting of the Harangi Reservoir Drinking Water Committee.

The matter relating to the release of water has also been brought to the notice of MLA of Madikeri Assembly constituency, Manthar Gowda, who is also the chairman of the Harangi Reservoir Project Irrigation Advisory Committee.

Hence, the statement has alerted the people living in the basin of the Harangi and Cauvery rivers, and on both banks of the rivers, to take precautionary measures and protect their property, livestock, and lives, and move to safer places if necessary.
