The Irrigation Department officials released water from the Almatti dam for the kharif crop on Tuesday.
This follows the State government’s directions issued on Monday, following resumption in rainfall in parts of Maharashtra and Belagavi district.
Last week, the State government said it would utilise water impounded in reservoirs only for drinking purposes. This is the first time the government has released water from the dam for crops, in this season.
The Monday’s directive said water release for crops would continue till the inflow to the dam was reduced. In case of reduction, the water release would be rationed to stop release of water for 10 days, after every two weeks.
On Tuesday, the officials increased the outflow from the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir to Krishna river to around 80,000 cusecs. This is a four-fold increase from the daily average of 20,000 cusecs released till Monday.
The inflow into the dam was around 72,333 cusecs. It had around 101.4 tmcft of live storage against the full capacity of 123 tmcft.
Discharge from Maharashtra remained high at around 67,504 cusecs, around 2,037 cusecs more than that of Monday.
Inflow into the Hipparagi Barrage was around 54,300 cusecs and outflow was 48,700 cusecs.
Inflow into the Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir on the Ghataprabha in Hidkal was around 10,180 cusecs and outflow was 1,582 cusecs. The dam had 28 tmcft out of the full capacity of 51 tmcft.
The Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha had an inflow of 2,953 cusecs and outflow of 1,194 cusecs. It had around 11 tmcft of water against the full capacity of 37 tmcft of water.
