At 6,638 meters, Kailash towers near the borders of China, India, and Nepal. At its base lie the sacred lakes, Manasarovar, symbol of purity, and Rakshastal, its darker twin. The pilgrimage, known as the Kailash Yatra, dates back countless generations. By the 1930s, thousands made the journey. But history interrupted. After the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1950, and the 1962 Sino-Indian War, borders closed. The Yatra resumed only in 1981, and even today, access remains limited and tightly regulated.
