The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday (September 28, 2025) issued a warning of increased rainfall intensity in several districts of Maharashtra between Saturday (September 27, 2025) and Tuesday (September 30, 2025).
Accordingly, widespread rain and heavy rainfall are expected at some places in Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada. The State Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has informed that due to heavy rains in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, there is a possibility of urban flooding, and that the citizens should remain alert.

The EOC has also issued instructions to all district administrations in view of the potential heavy rainfall. “There is a possibility of minor and major landslides in ghat areas, and flash floods may occur. Constant monitoring of river flows and necessary action should be taken,” the EOC said.
The EOC has asked the district administrations to keep control rooms operational 24×7.
“Water pumps should be deployed in low-lying urban areas. Similarly, low-lying regions should be monitored and necessary action taken. Necessary measures should be implemented for dangerous and old buildings from the CSSR perspective. Repair teams, chainsaws, and feeder protection units should be deployed for electricity and road infrastructure,” it added.
“The water storage and discharge of medium dams in Konkan and upper catchment areas should be regularly reviewed. Early disaster warning messages should be disseminated through SMS, social media, and local media in view of possible heavy rainfall,” the EOC instructed, asking the citizens to remain vigilant.
It has also asked people to follow official instructions, avoid going to dangerous areas, avoid flood-prone regions and not to stand under trees during lightning.

“Take all essential precautions to protect yourself from floods. Use local shelter centres for safety during flood emergencies. Avoid unnecessary travel during flood conditions. Do not attempt to cross roads when water is flowing over bridges on rivers or streams, and do not believe in rumours,” it added.
