Visakhapatnam has emerged as the top-performing district in Andhra Pradesh in terms of participation at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) football league selections, with as many as 232 children turning up for the district-level trials held on Thursday.

The selections, conducted at the Indira Priyadarshini Stadium, were aimed at identifying district teams for the forthcoming State-level leagues. “The SAAP leagues are being conducted across the State in about 33 disciplines. The football selections at the district level are meant to identify teams for the State competitions, and we were pleasantly surprised by the turnout,” said June Gallyot, District Sports Development Officer (DSDO), Visakhapatnam.
