IFS officer B. Vijaya Kumar took charge as the Field Director, Project Tiger Circle, Srisailam, on Wednesday.

Speaking after assuming office, Mr. Vijaya Kumar said the A.P. Forest Department’s Project Tiger (FDPT) circle oversees India’s largest tiger reserve — the Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) — in terms of area.

The FDPT focusses on inclusive community engagement involving forest dwellers in protection and habitat management, harnessing conservation technology like thermal drones, AI-driven sensors, e-patrolling, e-smart fencing, Digital Intelligence System (HAWK), and Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tools (SMART) to boost tiger and prey densities in NSTR, and adopting Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS) for self-assessment of NSTR, aligning with National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines.

Mr. Vijaya Kumar said that forests and wildlife are the lifeline of human beings and without them, the survival is untenable. The very existence of humans hinges on natural resources, including forests and wildlife. Even the economy of a State or country is intertwined with these assets.
