The video of a traffic policeman caught on camera slapping a two-wheeler rider twice has surfaced on social media, drawing criticism from the members of the general public on Wednesday.
The incident is said to be near Silk Board junction, but it is yet to be verified and is being probed by senior officials, who promised to take necessary action.
In the video the traffic policeman is seen stopping the two wheeler rider, who is wearing helmet, and slapping him. The victim removes his helmet and asks the policeman why he is slapping him, for which the traffic policeman slapped him again.
The policeman accompanying him is also seen stopping other vehicles and taking away the keys.
Director General and Inspector General of Police, M.A. Saleem, had directed the police not to stop the vehicles for random checks unless they find any visible violations. The directions were issued following a tragic incident of a three-year-old girl being killed after she fell off a motorcycle and was run over by a truck during a vehicle check by the traffic police at Swarnasandra in Mandya in May this year, sparking public outrage.
