Veteran playback singer S Janaki, fondly known as the “Nightingale of South India”, passed away at the age of 88 in Karnataka’s Mysuru, leaving behind an extraordinary musical legacy spanning several decades. In her singing career, she performed thousands of songs across multiple languages and earned widespread recognition.
The news of her demise has left the music fraternity and her fans in mourning. However, the cause of her death has not been disclosed yet.
Born in Pallapatla, Andhra Pradesh, S Janaki began her playback singing career with Vidhiyin Vilayattu in 1957. The late singer received four National Film Awards and 33 different State Film Awards.
