There is a need to protect and promote Telugu language, and governments should make Telugu proficiency mandatory for jobs, former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu has said.

Participating as the chief guest in the Krishna Tarang-2025, a three-day inter-collegiate youth and cultural festival at the Krishna University in Machilipatnam on Thursday, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu pointed out that the interest of the youth in the Telugu language and history is receding.

“The government should ensure that all official correspondence is done in Telugu language. Students should gain excellence not only in academics but also in humanities and sports,” he said.

‘Yuva Keratalu’

Minister for Mines and Excise Kollu Ravindra said an initiative ‘Yuva Keratalu’ was conducted in Machilipatnam to bring out the hidden talent in the youth, and thousands participated in the programme.

Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad said Machilipatnam is the birthplace of art, while Krishna district is known for producing freedom fighters, journalists, and eminent politicians.

APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana urged the students to take inspiration from Mr. Venkaiah Naidu’s journey, rising from the level of a party worker to the Vice-President of India.

Krishna University Vice-Chancellor K. Ranjee, professors and students were present in the programme being organised to showcase the talent of students from 144 colleges affiliated to the university.
