Vellore GH celebrates International Day for Older Persons

The Government Medical College Hospital has organised a series of events including a rally as well as cultural events at its campus in Vellore as part of celebration of International Day of Older Persons.

According to a press release, this year’s theme was ‘Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights.’ The program commenced with a rally around the campus involving students including nursing and physician assistant streams. It was followed by a health awareness programme in the outpatient block premises.

The dean of the hospital, M. Rohini Devi, inaugurated the celebrations and explained about the needs of the elderly and importance of their health care. Patients and attendees shared their experiences, praising the quality of care and treatment they received in the Geriatric ward. The concepts of healthy ageing and providing high-quality medical care were amongst the highlights of some orations.

On the occasion, Bijin Oliver John, senior assistant professor, Department of Geriatrics, N. Rathi Thilagam, Medical Superintendent, Gowri Veligandla, Vice-Principal, G.M. Geetha, Assistant Resident Medical Officer, A. T. Maaran, head, Department of General Medicine of the hospital, were present, the release said.
