Veerashaiva Mahasabha leaders in Dharwad have said that a young member of the community died due to harassment by police officers and have sought action against the latter.

They also sought compensation for the family of Aditya Myageri who died due to police harassment.

This decision was taken during Veerashaiva Lingayat leaders meeting at Lingayat Bhavan in Dharwad on Sunday.

They condemned the Congress government for merely suspending three police personnel and an inspector in connection with the death of Aditya Myageri, a student who ended his life due to police harassment.

A memorandum was earlier submitted through the Deputy Commissioner demanding that an FIR be registered against the accused officials and that the case be investigated by a retired High Court judge, they said.

However, no action has been taken till date, they said. They vowed to approach the courts if the State government does not act on their demands.

To safeguard the interests of people facing injustice in society, it was decided to form the Veerashaiva Lingayat Protection Committee.

General secretary Shivasharan Kalabashettar, Madivallappa Siriyannavar, Veeresh Kelageri, Manjunath Mooganavar, Vijayalakshmi Kalyanshettar, Shrishailgouda Kamtar, S.L. Biradar, members of Aditya Myageri’s family and others were present.
