The Zilla Valmiki Samiti has complained to the police saying that the former MP Ramesh Katti used an abusive slur against members of the community in an interaction with followers in Belagavi on Sunday.

The complainants have said that Ramesh Katti used an abusive word for the community and that he has to be charged under BNS and Prevention of Atrocities (against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Act.

They submitted copies of a video clip in which the former chairman of the Belagavi District Central Cooperative Bank is seen/heard using an abusive word against the community and laughing.

Minister Satish Jarkiholi, who is a member of the Valmiki Bedar Nayaka community, said that it is not acceptable that senior leaders continue to use abusive words against some communities.

He said that such actions can lead one to face legal challenges and that the law will take its own course.

Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao said that a complaint has been received and that investigation is on.
