Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj, a premier socio-cultural organisation for Odias in the city, celebrated its annual cultural evening in the open theatre within the office premises on Sunday evening.

Festivities commenced with the inauguration of a mini Odia food festival by the Samaj president J.K. Nayak where traditional Odia savouries were available on display and consumption. This was followed by Srestha Odiani (The great Odia housewife) competition, followed by a dance performance by in-house artists.

The special attraction of the evening was an enactment of the play `Matura Swapna’ written, directed and acted by R.P. Sahu, a playwright of repute, credited to have penned 60 and directed 90 plays. Mr. Sahu by profession is an engineer and by passion a complete theatre person, he retired from RINL as GM (projects).

The play `Matura Swapna’ was about the disillusionment of a retired bureaucrat who upon returning to the village, he finds that it has turned into a play field for lampoons and unable to adjust he dies at the end.
The performance of in-house caste was commendable and with intermittent doses of comedy made it appealing to the audience
General Secretary Bimal Kumar Mahanta thanked the gathering for their participation.
