Paying tribute to Immanuel Sekaran, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday promised that a manimandapam for the late freedom fighter at Paramakudi would be inaugurated in another two months.
Mr. Udhayanidhi, accompanied by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy, Minister for Forests R.S. Rajakannappan, Minister for Co-operation K.R. Periakaruppan, and party members paid homage to Immanuel Sekaran at his memorial in Paramakudi on the occasion of his 68th death anniversary.
Mr. Udhayanidhi said the Tamil Nadu government had allocated ₹3 crore for the construction of the manimandapam, acting on a request from the late leader’s family and community.
The manimandapam for the social justice warrior who worked for the uplift of oppressed people would ensure that his struggle and sacrifice are known to future generations, he said.
TNCC president K. Selvaperunthagai, BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran, NTK coordinator Seeman, AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran, TVK general secretary Bussy N. Anand, Puthiya Tamilagam founder-president K. Krishnasamy, and representatives of other political parties including the AIADMK, VCK, MDMK, and DMDK paid homage at Immanuel Sekaran’s memorial, besides his family and scores of people from southern districts.
Police sources said the event passed off largely peacefully.
Elsewhere, TVK leader Vijay, Anbumani Ramadoss (identifying himself as PMK president), and VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan also paid tributes to the freedom fighter.
