A wild elephant attacked and grievously injured a 48-year-old man, Jithendran, at Vithura on the outskirts of the city early on Sunday (September 22, 2025).

The police said Mr. Jithendran, who was travelling to Palode for work on his two-wheeler, stumbled upon a wild elephant crossing the road. Doctors at the local taluk hospital were treating him for multiple bone injuries, including a few broken ribs.

The Forest Department has dispatched its elephant squad to chase the tusker deeper into the Agasthya Bio Sphere forests.
