Two persons were arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for throwing stones at passengers in express trains near Katpadi railway station on Saturday.

The police said the arrested persons were identified as K. Sanjay, 23, and A. Rakesh, 20. They were residents of Latteri and K.V. Kuppam villages in Vellore district respectively. The RPF had received complaints of stone pelting accidents from travelers, who commute between Gudiyatham and Katpadi, since October.

The two suspects allegedly threw stones at the train’s glass windows and damaged them. Commuters also sustained minor injuries. Based on complaints by commuters, special teams were formed to nab the suspects. Subsequently, the police analysed CCTV cameras near railway stations between Gudiyatham and Katpadi and identifed the two suspects.

The duo was nabbed from their hideout near Katpadi. A case was registered and they were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore town. A probe is under way.
