Two vehicles that had been seized by the police and parked on a footpath outside the residence of a rowdy-sheeter in Malleswaram were set ablaze by unidentified persons late on Wednesday night.

The police have launched a probe to identify the miscreants. According to the complaint filed by head constable Mahantesh Matad of the Malleswaram Police Station, the incident occurred near Metro Pillars 167 and 168 on R.P. Road in M.D. Block on June 4 around 11.40 p.m.

Earlier in the night, the police patrol team visited the residence of rowdy-sheeter Kumaresh as part of routine surveillance to verify his presence at home. Shortly after the team returned, information was received that two vehicles parked on the footpath near the house were on fire.

The police rushed to the spot and found two cars engulfed in flames. The Fire and Emergency Services personnel were alerted, and the blaze was extinguished.

Investigators said both vehicles were seized in previous cases and were parked on the roadside near Kumaresh’s residence.

The loss is estimated over ₹3 lakh. The police suspect the vehicles were deliberately set on fire by unidentified persons. A case has been registered under Sections 324(3) and 326(f) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and probing whether the incident was linked to the police visit to the rowdy-sheeter’s residence shortly before the fire broke out. No arrests have been made so far.
