Madras High Court Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari on Thursday (October 15, 2026) administered the oath of office to Justices D. Lingeswaran and B. Karthikeyan who had been elevated as judges of the High Court from the district judiciary.

With their appointment, the working strength of the High Court has increased from 65 to 67 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 75 judges. Of those serving, 56 were permanent judges and the rest were serving as additional judges for a fixed tenure.

Welcoming the two new judges and introducing them to the gathering at the swearing-in ceremony, Advocate General Vijay Narayan said, Justice Lingeswaran hails from Radhapuram Taluk in Tirunelveli district. He had entered district judiciary in January 2014.

He said, Justice Karthikeyan was a native of Thanjavur district and he too had become a district judge in January 2014. Both the judges had served in many districts across the State in various capacities in the district judiciary before getting elevated to the High Court.
