Security forces arrested two militants, belonging to proscribed outfits, for allegedly being involved in extortion activities in Manipur, a police statement said on Wednesday (July 8, 2026).

A 22-year-old cadre of the banned Kuki National Front was apprehended from the Nungkhal bridge area in Jiribam district on Monday. One country-made pistol with a magazine and six live rounds of bullets were seized from his possession, it said.

A 38-year-old member of the outlawed People’s Liberation Army was also arrested in Bishnupur district on Monday for alleged extortion activities, the police statement said.

A person was also apprehended for allegedly extorting money from vehicle owners at Tairenpokpi in Imphal West district on Tuesday(July 7).

During a visit to the Noney district headquarters on Tuesday (July 7), Manipur DGP Mukesh Singh had directed police officers to remain proactive in curbing extortion activities in the State.

Mr. Singh had also emphasised maintaining law and order, strengthening anti-extortion operations, and ensuring prompt investigation and disposal of pending cases.
