Two labourers were buried alive, while one escaped with injuries when part of a mud heap collapsed on them at an under-construction building in Siddartha Colony in Madiwala on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Razauddin, 33, and Lal Muddin, 32. Their friend Safaul, 28, was injured. All three are natives of Jharkhand. They were digging the mud to erect a pillar for a multi-storied structure. While three were inside the pit, a few others were standing on top.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Tuesday. When the mound of mud collapsed on those inside the pit, the labourers outside raised an alarm and managed to pull out one of them, while the bodies of two others were recovered later by the Fire and Emergency personnel.

Based on the complaint filed by Sakib Ansar, brother of one of the deceased, the police have taken up a case of death due to negligence against the building owner, contractor and engineer.
