A sub-inspector and a school student were killed in two separate incidents in Tiruvannamalai and Ranipet on Tuesday.

The police identified the deceased persons as R. Parthiban, 50, a sub-inspector at Vada Vanakkampadi police station near Vandavasi town, and R. Monish, 15, a class X student at Government High School in Banavaram village in Ranipet.

Initial inquiry revealed that Parthiban was returning to Vada Vanakkampadi village after completing bandobast duty at a local temple festival when an unidentified vehicle hit the two-wheeler he was riding. The injured policeman was taken to Government Taluk Hospital in Vandavasi town where doctors declared that he was brought dead.

In a separate incident, Monish was returning to his house with his sister on a two-wheeler on Banavaram – Nemili Road in Ranipet when a van hit the vehicle. Monish and his sister were badly injured. The Banavaram police rushed the duo to a Government Taluk Hospital in Sholinghur, where Monish succumbed to injuries. A probe is under way.
