Two youths were killed in a head-on collision between a car and a lorry on the national highway (NH) at Thekkilparamba, near Chattanchal, in Kasaragod, Kerala, on Tuesday.

According to the police, the deceased were identified as Mohammed Shafeeq (23) of Derla, Karnataka, and Ashif Mohammed (23) of Ulla, Karnataka.

Four persons were travelling in the car. The vehicle was completely mangled in the impact. Fire and Rescue Service personnel from Kasaragod cut open the wreckage to extricate the victims. Though they were rushed to a private hospital in Kasaragod, Shafeeq and Ashif succumbed to their injuries.

The two others – Hashim (23) and Riyas (24) of Mangaluru – who sustained injuries were admitted to a private hospital at Chengala. Their condition was reported to be stable.

Traffic on the national highway, which was disrupted following the accident, was later restored after the police and the Fire and Rescue Services personnel cleared the site.

According to the relatives of the victims, the group was returning to Mangaluru after attending an event in Wayanad when the lorry coming from the opposite direction collided with the car.

The bodies were shifted to the Kasaragod General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
