A 30-year-old man and a juveilene were arrested by Jolarpet police at Somanayakkanpatti railway station near Jolarpet town in Tirupattur on Sunday for snatching two sovereigns of gold chain from a woman commuter.

Police said the arrested persons were K. Satish, a resident near Jolarpet and a juvenile. Initial inquiry revealed that victim V. Nadiya, a resident of Vishamangalam village near Tirupattur town, was returning in Bengaluru – Jolarpet passenger train after visiting her relatives in Bengaluru.

Police said as the train was halting at Somanayakkanpatti railway station, the duo snatched a gold chain from Nadiya. She raised the alarm and railway police rushed to the spot. They analysed CCTV footage in the railway station and found the duo fled the railway station after the incident.

Based on an alert, Jolarpet police conducted checks at various public spots and nabbed the duo from a hideout near a bus terminus. The duo told police that they used to do petty crimes in the area. They noticed Nadiya wearing a gold chain and decided to rob it.

A case was registered. Police recovered lost jewellery from the duo. They were lodged at sub-jail in Tirupattur town. A probe is underway.
