Two men from Mumbai were arrested near Nampally Railway Station on Thursday in connection with a theft at a jewellery shop in Basheerbagh. The Saifabad police recovered 173 pieces of gold and diamond-studded jewellery, weighing about 850 grams and valued at around ₹1.5 crore, from their possession.

The accused were identified as Chadawa Ronak, 24, a marketing executive with Shanaya Diamond Jewellery Pvt. Ltd., and Mohd Hasnain Habiya, 22, a student. “Both were said to be in financial distress after suffering heavy losses in IPL betting. Investigators said Ronak hatched the plan after joining Shanaya Diamonds in April and asked Hasnain to assist in carrying out the theft,” said DCP of Central Zone, K. Shilpavalli.

The theft took place on September 5 at Vijay Shankar Lal Jewellers, with a complaint lodged two days later. Following credible leads, Saifabad police and CCS Hyderabad traced and caught the duo, who later confessed to the crime.

Police advised jewellers to verify employee backgrounds thoroughly before hiring and urged the public to safeguard valuables and report suspicious activity through Dial 100.
